Matt Simmons

Matt grew up in downtown Mebane beside the Old Mebane Recreation Center. He had the chance to play sports, be a spectator, attend sports summer camps and special events, volunteer in concessions, and operate the scoreboard. During 1998-1999 he worked part-time for Mebane Recreation while attending Eastern Alamance and playing sports for the Eagles.

After earning a degree from East Carolina University and interning for the Mebane Recreation Department in 2004, Matt was hired as the Athletic Program Coordinator. Since then, he has witnessed many great families, players, coaches, officials, fans, events, first responders, sports camps, practices, and games.

He is a Certified Youth Sports Administrator (CYSA) and likes being outdoors working in the Parks. Matt enjoys providing kids with the same fun opportunities at the Mebane Recreation and Parks Department today.

In December 2024, Matt accepted a new Recreation and Parks Department role when he became a Parks Operations Maintenance Supervisor.  Matt will spend most of his time helping keep the Mebane Community Park looking aesthetically pleasing, clean, and well maintained for the Citizens of Mebane.
