About

The City of Mebane follows the Council-Manager form of government. Under this form of government, residents elect a Mayor and City Council, who then appoint a professional City Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the town. Most cities and counties in North Carolina follow this form of government.

City Council members are the community leaders and policy makers who establish a vision for Mebane, and who hire the manager to carry out policy and ensure that all residents are equitably served. The manager coordinates the work of department heads and other employees, who help ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of services. In addition, the manager builds public/private partnerships to target all of a community's resources to creatively solve current problems. Ultimately, the city manager's primary responsibility is to keep our community running smoothly.
