Mebane 2045: Planning for a Charming Tomorrow
Mebane is beginning a yearlong project to create a new long-range, comprehensive land development plan. The finished plan will outline a vision and goals for Mebane’s future and will guide the City’s growth and development. An updated plan will provide the City with a consistent framework for land-use decisions. It will help protect public investments and support thoughtful development, preserve valued resources, shape the City’s appearance, promote economic growth, and justify zoning decisions. Additionally, the planning process fosters community involvement by incorporating public input into a collective vision for the future.
Survey will be open from October 4th until November 30th. Paper copies are available by request. Please contact the Planning Department for more details.
Meet the Team:
City of Mebane Staff
The Planning and Zoning Department coordinates the plan and collaborates closely with our consultants. Planning and Zoning staff will help to lead community engagement throughout the planning process. Ashley Ownbey, Development Director, is leading the planning effort in cooperation with other City staff and departments.
Green Heron Planning & Nealon Planning
Two consultants, Green Heron Planning and Nealon Planning, were carefully selected by City staff to help craft the updated Comprehensive Land Development Plan. The team is led by Ben Hitchings and Meg Nealon, who both have over 30 years of planning and design experience across North Carolina. They are dedicated to listening closely to the community, understanding their values and vision for the future, and delivering meaningful and actionable plans.
Two other firms will aid in the planning process. City Explained, Inc. will help with an analysis of commuting in Mebane and with GIS (Geographical Information Systems) and mapping. Rose & Associates will conduct a housing and retail analysis of Mebane.
Community Advisory Committee (CAC)
In August, The Mebane City Council selected fourteen community members to serve on the Community Advisory Committee. These individuals represent many different neighborhoods in Mebane, the City's Extraterritorial Jurisdiction (ETJ), and the larger study area. Their varied perspectives will be valuable in creating a plan that aligns with the community's goals.
