Building Permits

A complete building permit package will include the forms below. The Workers Comp Affidavit and Lien Agreement forms are required if construction cost is geater than $30,000.  Sub permits will not be issued separately from the building permit. Permits can be submitted to inspections@cityofmebane.com or through our online permit portal.

The Workers Comp. Affidavit and Lien Agreement forms are required if construction costs exceed $30,000. You will also need to visit Liens NC to purchase a lien. If your company has a Certificate of Insurance, this can replace Workers Comp.

Permits are issued upon receipt of applicable applications, documents and fees, and upon review and inspection by the Planning, Inspections and/or Fire Department. All new businesses should refer to the Business Checklist for navigating the City's permitting processes. New businesses that are making no changes to a property need a Business Occupancy Permit, which includes Zoning Compliance. The Business Occupancy Permit has a $100 fee. Suspected code violations can be reported with the Code Violation Form.

Nearly all Building Permits require a Zoning Permit that must be approved by the Planning Department prior to review by the Inspection Department. The Zoning Permit has a $50 review fee. Visit the Planning and Zoning Department page for more information.

Fire permits may also require building specs, plans, and other additional information as noted on the application.
