Assistant Chief T. A. Byrd

Assistant Chief T. A. ByrdAllen Byrd became the Assistant Chief of Police of the Mebane Police Department on  September 19, 2009.

Assistant Chief Byrd began his career with the Mebane Police Department in 1997 as a  Patrol Officer. In 2000, he was assigned to Vice and Narcotics Division. In 2003, he was  promoted to Lieutenant, Captain in 2005 and Assistant Chief in 2009.

Assistant Chief Byrd has held a variety of assignments during his employment with the  Mebane Police Department, including assignments in the Patrol Division, Special  Response Team, and Criminal Investigations. As a Lieutenant, he oversaw the Criminal  Investigations Division which includes the Vice and Narcotics Unit. As a Captain, he  oversaw the Operations (Patrol) Division and the Special Response Team.

Assistant Chief Byrd is a graduate of the North Carolina Justice Academy’s Management Development Program (Class #20). He also holds the North Carolina Advanced Law Enforcement Certification. Assistant Chief Byrd is a General Instructor, Taser Instructor, ASP Baton Instructor, Specialized Firearms Instructor and a Specialized Physical Fitness Instructor.

Captain J. L. Richardson

Lieutenant J.L. RichardsonJeremiah Richardson was promoted to the rank of Captain within the Mebane Police Department in 2024.

Captain Richardson began his career with the Mebane Police Department in 2005 as a Narcotics Investigator. Captain Richardson has held a variety of assignments during his employment with the Mebane Police Department, including assignments in the Patrol Division, Special Response Team, and Criminal Investigations. As a Captain, he has been assigned as the Commander over the Operations Division.

Captain Richardson is a graduate of Alamance Community College after receiving an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice. He then went on to Western Carolina University, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice, with a concentration in Administration of Justice.  He is also a graduate of the Law Enforcement Executive Program (LEEP) within the School of Public and International Affairs at North Carolina State University. He also holds the North Carolina Advanced Law Enforcement Certification. Captain Richardson possesses a General and Specialized Firearms Instructor Certification issued by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. Captain Richardson has also completed the Leadership Trilogy Program within the FBI-Law Enforcement Executive Development Association.

Captain A. T. Cole

Lieutenant A. T. ColeAdam Cole became Captain at the Mebane Police Department in 2024, he is currently assigned to the Support Services Division. Prior to being assigned the Captain of the Support Services Division, Captain Cole was assigned as the Lieutenant of the Support Services Division.

Captain Cole has been assigned several different task and responsibilities while at the Mebane Police Department. As the Captain of the Support Services Division, he is responsible for the Criminal Investigations Unit, which includes the Criminal Investigations, the Narcotics Investigator, CALEA Accreditation Officer, Evidence, and Records. In addition, Captain Cole is responsible for the Special Operations Unit, which includes the School Resource Officers, Community Engagement Officers, Traffic Officer, and Animal Control.

Captain Cole has successfully completed the Law Enforcement Executive Program (LEEP) at North Carolina State University in 2014-2015, received a Bachelor of Arts in Social and Criminal Justice from Ashford University in 2010, Master of Business Administration with a specialization in Organizational Leadership from Ashford University in 2012, and received his North Carolina Advanced Criminal Justice Certificate in 2016.  Captain Cole has completed the 215th Command Institute for Law Enforcement Executives through the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association in February of 2017.  Additionally, Captain Cole is a general instructor for the Mebane Police Department.
